Here are some reasons why a Presidential Commission should be established to study the proposed National Museum of the American People:
1. The United States was uniquely created and built by peoples from every land, and these people made this Nation the world's economic, military, scientific, and cultural leader;
2. The Museum would be America's only national institution devoted exclusively to telling the full story of the making of the American People;
3. The Museum would celebrate all of the peoples who came to this land and this nation, from the very first to the most recent, and tell the compelling story about their migration and immigration to these shores;
4. The Museum has the support of scores of diverse national organizations representing virtually every American ethnic and minority group;
5. The Museum would foster a sense of belonging to the nation by the mosaic of people that have come here and thus contribute to our national identity;
6. Both U.S. neighbors, Canada and Mexico, have major national museums in their capitals telling the story of their peoples;
7. A museum telling the story of the making of the American people belongs on or near the National Mall in Washington, DC;
8. The full story about the making of the American people is not well known or understood by the American people or by foreigners;
9. People from every American ethnic and minority group would flock to the Museum to see how their story is told and to learn the stories of other groups;
10. Foreign visitors would come to learn about natives of their countries who became Americans;
11. The Museum would be a destination for every school group visiting Washington and would foster learning though its education and curriculum programs;
12. The Museum has the potential to become a national pilgrimage destination and could be one of the most visited museums in the world;
13. The Museum would assist state, local and ethnic museums throughout the nation; and
14. No federal tax money is anticipated to be used to design and build the Museum.
