What We Seek
The mission of Museum supporters: To have a presidential study commission created to explore establishment of the Museum.
Presidential Commission
The commission appointed by the President of the United States will be a bipartisan, diverse body of distinguished Americans with expertise required to create a major new national cultural institution. The commission, with the task of exploring the creation of the National Museum of the American People, will take 6-9 months to report its findings to the President and Congress.
Commission Agenda
The commission will study and report on:
- The story the Museum will tell and will develop an outline of that story
- Sites in Washington
- The mission of the Museum
- Audiences
- Costs
- A fund-raising plan
- How the Museum will support state, local and ethnic museums in the U.S. with a similar mission
- The Museum's governance, whether it is part of or independent of the Smithsonian Institution
- Components of the Museum
- A plan to create the Museum
- Draft legislation to create an entity that would be responsible for building the Museum and raising all of the funds required to plan, build and operate the Museum
