The mission of the Coalition for the NMAP is to have the National Museum of the American People Presidential Study Commission created to explore establishment of the museum. The commission would study and consider the museum's exhibition, story line, collections, location, governance, components, cost, fund raising and develop a plan of action to build the museum.
The Coalition began assembling in January 2009 and was announced in February 2011. As of February 2014, more than 150 organizations representing more than 60 ethnic and genealogical groups have joined the Coalition representing a broad range of national ethnic/minority and other groups in the United States.
In addition, a coalition of eminent scholars from around the world was established and it too was announced in February 2011. As of February 2014, there were more than 50 scholars in this group. These scholars, most of who specialize in the study of the migration and immigration of various people, back the creation of the study commission and will provide the intellectual bedrock from which this institution would be built.
Both the coalitions of organizations and of scholars are in formation.
